This week's Hip-Shaking movie- ELVIS from Baz Luhrmann

Film@BirrTheatre brings you the best of Irish, world and independent cinema on the theatre's big screen, every Thursday night at 8pm.

This week, does this one even need an intro? Elvis....ahhh, a household name from possibly one of the most famous performers of many a one's time.

It's somewhat appropriate that director Baz Luhrmann's take on this Elvis (the amazingly dazzling Austin Butler) story is primarily led by Colonel Tom Parker (The unrecognisable Tom Hanks) his enigmatic manager of 20 years and a former carny showman, given how much it feels like a rollercoaster ride, with highs and lows!

This biographical film delves into the complex dynamic between the two (Parker and presley) spanning over 20 years. The financial abuse is a major plot point. From Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, viewed against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).

The film received positive reviews, with Butler's performance garnering widespread acclaim, the American Film Institute naming Elvis one of the top ten best films of 2022!

So, Birr Theatre & Arts Centre is the place to be this Thursday (19th) night at 8pm.

For this one it might be wise to book your seat in advance and while your at it, why not treat your partner in crime to a seat for €7! Brownie points all round!

See you there!
