Every Thursday Film@BirrTheatre brings you the best of Irish, world and independent cinema on the theatre's big screen.
This week, our film The Big Hit (Un triomphe) is set in France,it is a prison comedy drama (based on a true story) about a comedy-drama being staged in a prison!
What's it about?
Etienne, an often out of work but endearing actor, runs a theater workshop in a prison called - Kumla, a maximum- security prison in Sweden, where he brings together an unlikely troupe of prisoners to stage Samuel Beckett’s famous play Waiting for Godot.
His motley crew includes the literate Jordon (Pierre Lotin), Patrick (David Ayala), immigrant Moussa (Wabinlé Nabié) gatecrashing hardman Kamel (Sofian Khammes) and Boiko (Aleksandr Medvedev) - who sneakily re invents the play. When he is allowed to take the colorful band of convicts on a tour outside of prison, that is after pleadings with the patient, liberal warden (Marina Hands) Etienne finally has the chance to thrive.
Each date is a new success and a unique relationship grows between this ad hoc group of actors and their director. But soon comes the final performance in Paris. Will their last night together be the biggest hit of them all? Bien sur!
So gather your own motley crew and get yourselves to Birr theatre to see The Big Hit on the Big screen!
